WHAT: Stop by our Discovery Cart to look for micro-fossils while picking through sediment from Aurora, NC for National Fossil Day. This activity is self-guided. All fossils and program components and materials must remain on site. This activity contains small parts not suitable for children 3 and under. FREE with general paid admission to Hands On! Discovery Center.

The Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum Civil War STEAM

WHAT: Students in 2nd -6th grade are invited to see how the past and science connect at the Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum's Civil War STEAM event! Explore weapons and technology, disease and medicine, optical illusions and coding, and animals at war through hands-on demonstrations and a special tour of the museum.

Tour times are available at 9:00am, 10:00am, 11:00am, and 12:00pm. Public, private, and home school groups are welcome to attend. Please plan for a minimum of two hours for your visit.

Memphis Astronomical Society Dark Sky Observing and Star Party

We'll take a look at the fall constellations, summer Milky Way, and look closer at the prominent celestial objects that are visible this time of year- planets, galaxies, globular clusters, open clusters, nebula, and much more!

Memphis Botanic Garden Alice Adventures in the Garden

WHAT: Immerse yourself in wonder and whimsy at the Garden this Fall. Meet larger-than-life Alice in Wonderland themed sculptures constructed entirely of mosaiculture, the horticultural art of creating giant topiary-like sculptures using thousands of annual bedding plants to carpet steel armature forms. As you explore the Garden you’ll encounter The Red Queen playing her curious version of croquet, Alice spinning through Wonderland, card guards and pawns defending The Chess Set, and the mysterious grin of The Cheshire Cat.

The exhibit combines science, math, art and engineering. It is viewable now through October 22nd 2022. Our hours are 9 am- 6 pm every day.

Carpe Artista Arts Academy It's NOT a Pumpkin Contest

WHAT: Visit Carpe Cafe to view local Artist Creations of things that may look like a pumpkin but aren't really. Pumpkins on display will be made from a variety of things but NOT a real pumpkin. Visitors can vote on their favorite by making a donation. The pumpkin with the most funds raised will win. Funds benefit Carpe Artista Arts Academy.

The Parthenon Museum Tour

Most Architecture Tours require museum admission but this one is special and outdoor-only!

WHAT: Join us at 3 PM for an up-close look at Nashville history, American art, and Greek mythology. A museum expert will guide you through Tennessee's 1897 Centennial Exposition, share highlights of the permanent collection of paintings in the Cowan Gallery, and introduce the temporary exhibitions currently on display. The tour continues upstairs to Level 2, the interior re-creation of the Parthenon as it looked in the 5th century BCE where you will view the colossal statue of Athena, hear epic stories of Greek mythology, and see the incredible plaster casts of the world-famous Parthenon marbles.

These tours are free for Centennial Park Conservancy members or free with the price of admission for non-members.
